CAMPING & CABINS

Maryland features hundreds of friendly inns, hotels, bed and breakfasts, private campgrounds, and RV parks that promise convenience, comfort, and a quiet night’s sleep. In addition, the State Forest and Park Service maintains more than 2,000 campsites and 120 cabins right at the heart of countless recreational opportunities. Rest easy, play hard!

Western Maryland

- Pet-friendly, family-oriented commercial campgrounds are perfectly situated near forest trails, below mountain passes, and a stone’s throw from Deep Creek Lake.

- Year-round cabin rentals include rustic accommodations beside Herrington Manor State Park’s scenic lake and furnished cabins surrounded by the hemlock forest at New Germany State Park. Mini-cabins and campsites at Rocky Gap State Park not only offer direct access to hiking and mountain biking trails, but also put you near great golfing and freshwater scuba diving.

- Backcountry campsites have been recently added to Annapolis Rock along the Appalachian Trail, in an area gaining popularity for hiking, rock climbing, and admiring the vast rural landscape at Greenbrier State Park.

Capital Region

- Tent areas and R/V campsites put you right up close to Washington, D.C, historical parks, the Catoctin Mountains, and some incredible fishing opportunities on the Potomac River.

- Thirty-one hiker-biker campsites (for single-night tent camping) are situated along the C&O Canal, approximately every five miles from Swain’s Lock (Mile 16.6) to Evitts Creek (Mile 180.1). The historic canal is also surrounded by private campgrounds.

Central Maryland

- Just a short drive from Baltimore and other exciting destinations, you’ll find R/V parks, campgrounds, and a “recreation farm” given the highest rating by the renowned Woodall’s camping and RV directory.

- Mill Pond Cottage is an eight-person rental accommodation in Hereford that features both charm and privacy. The cottage is located beside wildland trails and a blue-ribbon trout stream inside Gunpowder Falls State Park. Local outfitters are available to line up canoes, bikes, inner tubes, or complete guide services.

Southern Maryland

- For canoeists and kayakers planning overnight excursions, backcountry paddle-in campsites are found along the Patuxent and Potomac rivers.

- Cedarville State Forest, with its 27-site family camping area, stretches across land once favored by Piscataway Indians as a winter camping ground due to the mild climate and abundance of game.

- Point Lookout State Park is a beautiful autumn getaway featuring wooded campsites, camper cabins, and a riverside cottage. Point Lookout’s history as a notorious Civil War prison camp adds to the area’s mystique.

Eastern Shore

- Hit the beach all year long at Assateague Island National Seashore and Assateague Island State Park, where both oceanfront and bayfront camping is available from March to November.

- Martinak State Park offers a full-service cabin overlooking the Choptank River. Wake up in an air-conditioned room, cook yourself breakfast, exit through the screened porch, and enjoy convenient fishing for bass, perch, sunfish and catfish.

- In addition to modern cabins and primitive campsites at Janes Island State Park, the 16-bed Daugherty Creek Conference Center is available for day, overnight, or weekly use. Tap into local outfitters for your recreational needs.
